Kathmandu — A high-level economic reform commission has recommended that the Nepal government allocate at least 10% of its capital budget to the development of the information technology (IT) sector over the next five years.

In its formal report submitted to the government, the commission emphasized the need for investment in IT infrastructure, including the construction of workstations and IT parks, to promote innovation and support digital growth.

The report identifies the IT sector as a key driver for economic growth, increased export capacity, and the creation of high-quality employment opportunities. It also highlights logistical challenges faced by IT companies and urges the government to take the lead in building physical workspaces.

Additionally, the commission proposed the establishment of a National Digital Innovation Center to promote advancements in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and digital infrastructure.
