Google has launched an AI-powered satellite called FireSat to detect and control wildfires before they spread. This advanced system will provide early warnings to help authorities take quick action.

A few days ago, FireSat was successfully launched into space using Elon Musk’s SpaceX launch vehicle. Google CEO Sundar Pichai thanked SpaceX for its support in this crucial project.

How FireSat Works

FireSat is designed to identify wildfire risks from space and send alerts within 20 minutes to relevant agencies. Google developed this satellite in collaboration with Earth Fire Alliance, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and Muon Space.

Google.org has backed this project with $13 million in funding. FireSat uses advanced AI detection technology to analyze satellite imagery, past wildfire locations, and weather conditions. This helps predict potential fire outbreaks before they happen.

Why Google Chose Satellites Over Drones

Initially, Google planned to use high-altitude drones for wildfire detection. However, after receiving support from SpaceX, launching satellites became a more cost-effective and efficient solution.

A Game-Changer in Wildfire Prevention

FireSat could revolutionize wildfire management by preventing massive destruction caused by forest fires. Just a few months ago, California faced severe wildfire damage, highlighting the urgent need for better fire detection systems.

With FireSat, Google aims to make wildfire prevention faster, smarter, and more effective worldwide.
