Bagmati Province Launches Digital Driving License System

Kathmandu-Bagmati Province has officially launched its own electronic driving license system, named EDL Bagmati. The launch took place on Friday during the National Information and Communication Technology Day, with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurating the system.

According to Bagmati’s Minister for Labour, Employment, and Transport, Prem Bhakta Maharjan, the new system is integrated with Nepal’s National Identity Card. This means applicants won’t need to provide separate biometric data—they’ll only need their NID number. The system automatically pulls biometric information from the national database.

Applicants will only need to visit the transport office for the written and trial tests. All other processes, from application to updates, can be done online.

Those using the Nagarik App can even register through the app by scanning a QR code shown in the system. Once the user gives permission, all required details will be retrieved directly from their linked National ID within the app.

Minister Maharjan stated that this system simplifies processes, saves time, and improves service delivery.

In addition, efforts are underway to integrate this system with services like vehicle tax payments, bluebook renewal, and other transport-related services under the Transport Management Information System (TMIS) to make everything more efficient and user-friendly.
