Kathmandu – The Government Of Nepal has requested social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) to officially register in Nepal within 30 days.
The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology issued a notice, setting a deadline for all unregistered social media platforms to complete their registration.
According to the notice, “All social media platforms operating in Nepal must register under the Social Media Guidelines, 2050, within 30 days. They must also appoint a contact person in Nepal to handle complaints and oversee self-regulation.”
As of now, only Viber, TikTok, and Saaransh Media Lab Pvt. Ltd. have officially registered with the ministry.
The government has warned that failure to register within the given timeframe could lead to a ban on unregistered social media platforms in Nepal under Clause 3(7) of the guidelines.
With this deadline in place, the big question remains—Will platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X comply with Nepal’s registration rule, or will their services face restrictions? The next 30 days will be crucial.
