Kathmandu –Nepal has imported more than 1.4 million smartphones in the past eight months, according to data released by the Customs Department. The latest figures, which account for imports until the end of Falgun (mid-March), reveal a significant surge in mobile device imports.

Smartphone Imports and Revenue

Between the beginning of the fiscal year 2081/82 (July 2024) and Falgun, Nepal imported 1,407,078 smartphones worth NPR 21.91 billion. The government collected NPR 4.08 billion in revenue from these imports.

Smartwatch Imports on the Rise

During the same period, Nepal also imported 130,735 smartwatches valued at NPR 227.73 million. The government generated NPR 68.31 million in revenue from smartwatch imports.

Surge in Router Imports

Router imports have also been notable, with 487,320 units brought into Nepal in the past eight months. These routers were worth NPR 1.25 billion, contributing NPR 233.53 million in revenue to the state.

SIM Card and Memory Card Imports

Nepal imported 1,085,019 SIM cards between July 2024 and March 2025. These SIM cards were worth NPR 54.45 million, generating NPR 13.35 million in revenue.

Additionally, 180,860 memory cards were imported during this period, amounting to NPR 20.81 million. The government collected NPR 5.17 million in revenue from memory card imports.

High Demand for Power Banks

Power bank imports have also remained strong. Nepal imported 221,992 power banks valued at NPR 1.29 billion in the past eight months. The government earned NPR 564.48 million in revenue from power bank imports.

The increasing demand for smartphones and other electronic gadgets highlights Nepal’s growing reliance on technology and connectivity. With the steady rise in imports, the government continues to collect substantial revenue from electronic devices entering the country.
