The electric vehicle (EV) market in Nepal, which became mainstream in 2023, is witnessing intense competition, especially after the Nepal Rastra Bank’s adjustment of the Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratio. This change is expected to lead to even fiercer competition among electric car brands. As a result, the electric car market is expected to see about three dozen new models arriving in Nepal by 2025, with around 15 different brands set to introduce over 36 models to the Nepali market.

BYD Leading the Charge with Multiple New Models

Currently a leader in Nepal’s electric car market, BYD is expected to launch three to four new models in 2025. BYD’s official distributor, Simex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., is planning to bring models such as the Celen 7, Ato 2, Single Hatchback, and the Hybrid model, Shark Pickup, to Nepal. Although the exact launch dates are not confirmed, there is speculation that the Celen 7 will be the first model to hit the market.

Hyundai and Other Brands Join the Race

Following BYD, Hyundai is also set to bring new EV models to Nepal. The company has not released any new electric vehicle models since the launch of the Ioniq 5. However, Hyundai is expected to introduce the Creta EV, the new generation Kona, the Inster EV, and the Ioniq 9 in 2025.

Chinese automotive giant Chery is also preparing to launch three electric models under its Omoda/Jeeco brand. This includes the Jeeco J-5, Jeeco V-23, and the four-wheel-drive J-6. There are also expectations for new models under the Omoda brand.

Other Brands Entering the Nepali Market

In addition to BYD, several other major brands are planning to introduce electric models in Nepal by 2025. Mahindra’s official distributor, Agni Incorporated Pvt. Ltd., is expected to bring two electric SUVs to the Nepali market— the BE-6 and the XEVI-9.

Suzuki’s official distributor, CG Motocorp, will launch the Suzuki E-Vitara, while Renault plans to introduce its Kwid EV. Tata will also bring the Harrier EV and Safari EV to Nepal. Additionally, Shangrila Motors is preparing to bring in several new electric models, including the Leapmotor B-10 SUV, Zikr’s Premium SUV, and Smart’s Hatchback 1 and Hatchback 5.

New Entrants from Various Brands

Other smaller car brands like Skywell and LEV have also announced plans to introduce compact electric cars to Nepal. Well-known global car brands like Jeep, Skoda, Volkswagen, Toyota, Nissan, and Honda are also preparing to launch their first electric models in Nepal in 2025.

A Promising Future for Electric Vehicles in Nepal

With numerous global and local automotive giants entering Nepal’s electric vehicle market, the industry is poised for rapid expansion. As more options become available, consumers in Nepal will have access to a variety of electric car models that suit different preferences and budgets. The increasing number of EVs promises a greener, more sustainable future for the transportation sector in Nepal.
