Kathmandu – Over the past seven months, Nepal has seen a significant rise in 4G users, with 2.96 million new subscribers added, according to the latest data from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). From July 2024 (Shrawan 2081) to mid-February 2025 (Magh 2081), the total number of 4G users has increased from 22.2 million to 25.1 million, covering 86.40% of the total population.
Nepal Telecom’s Market Share Declining
During this period, Nepal Telecom’s market share has declined, while Ncell has gained ground. Currently, based on SIM subscriptions:
- Nepal Telecom holds a 54.20% market share, down from 63.55% in July 2024.
- Ncell now holds 45.80%, up from 36.45% in July 2024.
Fiber Internet (FTTH) Continues to Grow
Meanwhile, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services have seen steady growth. As of mid-February 2025, Nepal has 3.02 million fiber internet users, accounting for 10.39% of the total population. Over the past seven months, 224,000 new users have subscribed to fiber internet services.
In the FTTH sector:
- WorldLink Communications leads the market with a 31.78% share.
- Nepal Telecom holds 11.43%, making it the second-largest provider.
- Dish Media Network (DishHome) is catching up, followed by other key ISPs like Subisu CableNet, Vianet Communications, Classic Tech, and Websurfer.
With the increasing demand for high-speed internet and mobile connectivity, the telecom and internet service provider landscape in Nepal continues to evolve rapidly.
